Uitto-artwork examines the idealised relationship with nature – the illusion of harmony with which Finnish people identify with. Timber rafting (uitto) was a tradition in my childhood village – the use of nature for consumerism and control. The erasure of the people in the image becomes timber in their own right, highlighting the evanescing illusion of control and harmony of nature.
